The Staycation

Yes, you read it right... this summer we are going on a staycation! It is an actual thing I heard all about it on one of those news shows, the guy who did it was a dork... but, apparantly the Orem Harrisons arew not the only ones doing it this summer. With the cost of gas affecting everything (not just gas) airline tickets (did you know you have to pay to check you 1st bag now and a soda if you want one on the plane now too?) food, you name it they find a way to raise the parice because of hike in gas prices. So, we are finding CHEAOP things to do at home... picnics at the park, we splurged and went to the Veterens Pool on Monday (picture above, actually we went so Dallin could finish his aquanat actvity pin, he wasn't entirely thrilled but we finisished, I need to multi task:) and we love the Library. Orem has such a BIG BEAUTIFUL library and so we go at least once a week... they have prgrams for the kids... if we don't attend those we just go and check out books...resing is mandatory in our home this summer. The librians (I cannot spell) are great helping thekids find books even when they have no idea even what they want to read. So, If anyone else has any great staycation ideas in Utah or Salt Lake County bring em on... right now we are running in the sprinklers alot, LOL! David has his work party at 7 peaks on Sat so that will be fun, and we have the 4th coming up and Dallin is still in the playoffs for baseball... Bailey has Orchestra Camp through the end of the month, sow e are busy. Peyton and Syd spendalot of time with the Veylupeks, and we are looking forward to Jason and Maddie Schauers (and Donna too:) coming for a visit soon! The Kaisers and my parents are coming in August do we have alot tolook forward to on our STAYCATION, kind fun...eh?

I think it's a fabulous idea and there are LOTS of fun things you can do w/ the kids over the summer! Every week we go to the library which has a summer reading program and the kids receive awards, little toys & restaurant certs. for their achievements. We also go to the beach weekly since we're only 30 min. away (sorry.. didn't mean to rub that in), the pool, community activities, $1.00 bowling, etc. Check your local movie theaters. Ours (and other cities I've heard of) always does free movies on Tues. & Wed. mornings. Free admission for all. They show a G movie and a PG movie. You can pick. Good luck with your summer fun activities! Keep us updated!
